Terms of use
The rules for using this site, and what we can and cannot promise you.
Who we are and what these terms cover
This site is run by actualbest, llc, a California company. These terms apply whenever you use it: reading a page, using a calculator, or answering a form. Using the site means you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.
Our privacy policy says what we collect and who sees it, and it is part of these terms. Write to us about anything on this page at privacy@theactualbest.com.

Who can use it
The site is meant for adults in the United States. You must be 18 or older to answer any form on it that asks about your finances.
When a form asks you questions, answer truthfully and about yourself. A lender relies on what you tell us, and false answers can cost you an offer or break the law.
What we are, and what we are not
We compare financial products and explain how they work. We are not a lender or a bank. We do not accept applications, make credit decisions, or guarantee any result.
What we publish is information, not financial, legal or tax advice. Your situation is your own, so weigh it before you decide anything.
We work to keep every figure correct and current, but lenders change their rates and terms often, and a figure here can be out of date or wrong. The lender's own figures are the ones that count. If you find a mistake, tell us at corrections@theactualbest.com.
Rates and offers
Where a form shows you offers, they come from lenders and partners, and they rest on what you told us.
- Offers are not guaranteed. A lender can change its rates, fees and terms at any time.
- An offer may not be available in every state or for every kind of loan, and it may be for a different amount from the one you asked for.
- Seeing an offer is not being approved. Each lender asks you to apply with them and makes its own decision.
- We do not show every product on the market. Others may suit you better, including some with lower rates.
Using this site and seeing offers costs you nothing.
When you leave for another site
Our links take you to lenders, banks and other companies. We do not control their sites. Once you leave, their terms and privacy policies apply, and any agreement you make is between you and them.
Some of those links earn us a commission. Read how we make money for how that works, and why it never moves a ranking.
Using the site fairly
You are welcome to read, quote and link to anything we publish. The writing, design and logo are ours, so credit us when you quote us, and do not republish whole pages as your own.
Please do not use the site to break the law, interfere with how it runs, reach parts of it not meant for you, or answer a form as someone else.
Please do not sell what we publish, or build a product or service out of it, without asking us first.
If someone uses the site in any of those ways, we may block their access to it.
If you cause us a loss
If you break these terms, break the law on the site, or answer a form as somebody else, and that costs us money -- a claim, a fine, the cost of defending one -- you agree to cover what it costs us, including reasonable legal fees. We will tell you if that ever happens, and you may take over defending it yourself.
This does not apply to anything that was our own fault.
If you live in California, you are giving up the protection of California Civil Code Section 1542, which says that a general release does not cover claims the person giving it did not know about at the time and which, had they known, would have changed their decision.
What we cannot promise
We provide the site as it is and as it is available. As far as the law allows, we make no promise that it will be free of errors, always available, or right for your purpose.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss that comes from using the site, or from a lender's product, decision or website. Nothing here limits a right that the law says cannot be limited.
Using this site costs you nothing, and as far as the law allows, everything we could owe you for it comes to no more than $100 in total. That limit does not apply to anything the law says cannot be limited.
We may change or stop any part of the site at any time.
If something goes wrong
Write to us first at privacy@theactualbest.com. Most problems can be settled that way.
California law governs these terms, and a dispute about them belongs in the state or federal courts of California.
Bring any claim about these terms or this site within one year of whatever it is about. After that it is too late, unless the law says otherwise.
If you live in California: under California Civil Code Section 1789.3, you may contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 N. Market Blvd., Suite S-202, Sacramento, California 95834, or by telephone at (800) 952-5210, to resolve a complaint about this site.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the date at the top changes with it. If we change something that matters to how you use the site, we will say so here rather than leave you to spot the difference. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
